WHO WE ARE

Skylarcs was founded in 2020 by Simon Verdegem and Raph De Brant, two archaeologists with a specialisation in the First World War and a passion that goes beyond their profession. As the project grows, the goal is to build a dense team of like-minded people with the same passion to give as many people as possible the opportunity to be part of Skylarcs and to take part in modern conflict research.

Archaeology is a passion and a profession. On the one hand, the commercialisation of the profession has led to professionalisation, so that nowadays only professional archaeologists are active in the field. However this is to the detriment of the archaeological world as it leaves the passion and motivation of many interested people an untapped source.  'Skylarcs wants to be an entry point which captures this passion and utilises it within a diverse and broad scientific network for the greater goal of understanding conflict and modern conflict archaeology.
